Sergeant Major Anthony Loftus enlisted in the Marine Corps September 1998 and attended recruit training aboard MCRD, San Diego, CA. Upon graduation, he reported to Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA, for Marine Combat Training. Following MCT, he reported to Marine Corps Engineer School, Court House Bay, Camp Lejeune, NC where he received the MOS of 1171 and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
In May 1999, Lance Corporal Loftus received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd FSSG, Okinawa, Japan. Upon completion of his tour he was assigned to the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st FSSG, Camp Pendleton, CA, and was meritoriously promoted to Corporal. In 2001, he deployed with the 13th MEU in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. In 2003 he deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and was combat meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. In January of 2004, he deployed again in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
In January 2005, Staff Sergeant Loftus attended Drill Instructor School MCRD, San Diego, and was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion. Staff Sergeant Loftus was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and transferred to the Instructor Staff, Drill Instructor School.
In October 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus received orders to 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. In May 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus deployed as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Military Transition Team 0700 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
In December 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Loftus was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to K Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marines as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant. In April 2013, First Sergeant Loftus received orders to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion and deployed with Marine Special Operations Company Delta. In November 2014 he was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15.
In February 2017, Sergeant Major Loftus received orders to 1st Marine Raider Battalion as the Battalion Sergeant Major and deployed with SOTF-N in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. In October of 2018 he reported to 6th Marine Regiment for duty as the Regimental Sergeant Major and deployed with Task Force Southwest in support of OPERATION FREEDOM'S SENTINEL and the RESOLUTE SUPPORT MISSION Afghanistan. In April of 2020, he returned to 6th Marine Regiment.
In April of 2021, Sergeant Major Loftus assumed the billet of Marine Forces Special Operations Command Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Loftus' personal awards consist of a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
