Sergeant Major Darby J. Noonan

2d MSOSB Sergeant Major

SgtMaj Noonan was born at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina and traveled with his parents to numerous military installations until he graduated from Quantico High School in 1988. On January 1, 1990 SgtMaj Noonan attended Recruit Training in Paris Island, South Carolina at 2ND Recruit Training Battalion, Hotel Company where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of PFC. Upon completion of Recruit Training Private First Class Noonan attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Private First Class Noonan then was assigned as a 3051 Basic Warehouseman and attended Mos school in Albany, Georgia.

In 1990, after completing MOS school, Private First Class Noonan was assigned to 3rd FSSG, 3rd Supply Battalion, Supply Company at Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan and worked as the QA NCO. In 1991 Lance Corporal Noonan received orders to Marine Security Guard Battalion Quantico, Virginia where he was a student as a watch stander. Lance Corporal Noonan then went on to be a watch stander as a Marine Security Guard in Istanbul, Turkey; Beijing, China and Canberra, Australia. 

In 1994, Sgt Noonan received orders to Paris Island, South Carolina to work as The Fitting Deck NCO at Headquarters Service Battalion. In 1998 Sgt Noonan attended Drill Instructor School and upon completion of school was assigned as a Drill Instructor with Recruit Training Regiment, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, India Company where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer of the Academics Section for Recruit Training Regiment from January 1998- April 2001.

After completing a successful tour in 2001 as a Drill Instructor SSgt Noonan was assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Alpha Company, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa Japan. While stationed with H&S Battalion, Alpha Company he held the billet as the Regional Contracting Officer for the DSSC aboard Camp Butler.

In 2004 returning Stateside Gunnery Sergeant Noonan was assigned to Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Headquarters and Service Battalion, as a Company Gunnery Sergeant for Service Company aboard Quantico, Virginia. During the summer months from May 2004 to August 2007 Gunnery Sergeant Noonan worked as a Platoon Sergeant at The Officer Candidate School and successfully completing eight platoons while serving in Echo and Golf Company.

Promoted to First Sergeant in 2007, First Sergeant Noonan received orders to 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines (WARLORDS) as the Company First Sergeant for Fox Company from September 2007- November 2008. During his time with Fox Company First Sergeant Noonan deployed to OIF (7-9). Upon his return from OIF First Sergeant Noonan was transferred to Headquarters and Service Company from November 2008- September 2010 to be the Company First Sergeant where he deployed with them to OEF. 

After completing his deployment with 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines, First Sergeant Noonan was assigned as the Alpha Company First Sergeant at Wounded Warrior Battalion-East in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina from September 2010- December 9 2011.

Sergeant Major Noonan was then assigned on December 9, 2011- January 2013 to II MAW, Mag-14, Marine Attack Training Squadron to be the Squadron Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Noonan in February 2014 reported to Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command and is currently assigned as the marine Special Operations Logistics Battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Noonan’s personnel awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars.
