Sergeant Major Jacob M. Reiff

2D Marine Raider Battalion Sergeant Major

Sergeant Major Jacob M. Reiff was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin on July 19, 1975 and graduated from Hazleton Area High School in Hazleton, Pennsylvania in May of 1993. 

Sergeant Major Reiff enlisted in the Marine Corps on 31 May 1995.  Upon completion of Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego California, Private First Class Reiff attended the basic Electronics Course and Radio Fundamentals Course at the Marine Corps Communications and Electronics School (MCCES) in 29 Palms, California.  Upon completion, Lance Corporal Reiff was transferred to Third Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan, where he was assigned to Marine Service Support Group-31 for the duration of his tour. 

In September of 1997, Corporal Reiff was transferred to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company at Camp Pendleton, California, where he was promoted to Sergeant and served as a Radio Repairman, Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival, and Firepower Control Team Radio Operator.  

In February 1999, Sergeant Reiff was again transferred to Alpha Company, MCCES, 29 Palms, California where he was a student in Technicians Theory Course, and Radio Technicians Course.  Upon graduation, in October of 1999, Sergeant Reiff was assigned to 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, as the Communications Maintenance Chief.

In May of 2002 Staff Sergeant Reiff was reassigned to 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as the Communications Maintenance Chief and Joint Terminal Attack Controller and was subsequently assigned to the 26 Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In December 2003, Staff Sergeant Reiff was transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron 472 at NAS-JRB Willow Grove, PA where he assumed the billet of Communications Maintenance Chief. 

In January of 2006 Gunnery Sergeant Reiff attended Security Force Supervisors Course and upon graduation, was posted as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Guard Chief for Marine Corps Security Force Company Guantanamo Bay Cuba from February of 2006 through November of 2006.  In December Gunnery Sergeant Reiff returned from Cuba and was assigned duties with Marine Corps Security Force Regiment until his selection to First Sergeant.

Upon promotion to First Sergeant, he was transferred to 2D Marine Special Operations Battalion as the Marine Special Operations Company F First Sergeant as well as the 2D Marine Special Operations Battalion remain behind Sergeant Major.

In June of 2011 First Sergeant Reiff was transferred to Naval Support Facility Thurmont, MD for duty as the Company First Sergeant of the Presidential Retreat at Camp David, where he served until his promotion in January of 2014 and subsequent assignment as Battalion Sergeant Major of 3d Battalion 6th Marine Regiment.  Sergeant Major Reiff most recently deployed as the Battalion Landing Team 3/6 Sergeant Major as part of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit from December of 2014 until July of 2015. 

Sergeant Major Reiff assumed his current post as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 2D Marine Raider Battalion in January of 2016.

Sergeant Major Reiff is a graduate of American Military University as well as the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program.
