Experts in the field of deployment readiness believe the key to family health before, during, and after a deployment is a family's ability to "bounce back," also known as the resiliency factor. Briefly stated, there are certain healthy skills and behaviors that a family can adapt into its lifestyle which will enable that family to survive, possibly even thrive, during family stress events such as a deployment. Since many of our MARSOC MSOSG Marines and Sailors will likely experience multiple deployments, it is even more important that families consider the resources that will enhance their resiliency.
Here are a few of the traits that resilient families demonstrate:
- Socially comfortable and confident
- Confident in one's identity and character
- Capable of being proactive
- Mentally, physically, emotionally tough
- Self-directed; not easily influenced by outside factors
- Able to maturely process input and criticism
