MARINE SPECIAL OPERATIONS RESERVE DETACHMENT (MSORD)

In keeping with the first SOF Truth, Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) has launched the MSORD to best capitalize on its most prized resource, our people.

Details

The Marine Special Operations Reserve Detachment (MSORD) enables MARSOC to operationalize its existing reserve Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) structure by creating a cohesive element to conduct training commensurate with MARSOC’s operational requirements.  The unit leverages the skills of our highly trained MARSOC Marines, while also enabling the Command to augment our force with skills outside of the MARSOC active-duty forces.  This unit creates a unique operational capability for MARSOC and leverages the diverse talents that form the foundation of the Marine Corps and US Special Operations.  Starting in January of 2024, MARSOC launched the MSORD as a team-sized element with a wide-ranging set of military and civilian skills to address the counterterrorism mission as well as provide more capabilities against strategic competitors that operate against our democratic values throughout the world.  To assist MARSOC’s active-duty forces, the MSORD is training with the goal of conducting the foreign internal defense mission on behalf of the command in its work with partners and allies through ongoing Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCETs).

MSORD offers the opportunity for service members to remain in the fight while continuing to serve their Country and build their career outside of MARSOC. MSORD provides the command with a unique opportunity to expand MARSOC’s capabilities with outside skills that can be complementary to the skills that Marine Raiders gained on active duty.  This mutually beneficial capability to augment the active-duty force and the careers of Raiders, who continue to fight for freedom.
