February 11, 2014 -- Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command hosted Dr. Author Finch, a renowned Special Operations Forces psychologist during a recent MARSOC Preservation of the Forces and Family event held here, Feb. 10, 2014.
Finch, who has been practicing psychology for over 14 years, and has 11 years experience working with both the U.S. Army Rangers and U.S. Army Special Operations Command, paid a visit to MARSOC to share his inside knowledge, perspective and strategies in managing the demands placed on Marines and their families who are a part of the special operations community.
“We are honored and grateful to have Dr. Finch here to speak with us today.
This is the first of many events to come, focusing on the health and wellbeing of our Marines, sailors and civilians and most importantly their families,” said Maj. Gen. Mark A. Clark, commanding general of Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command.
The spouses, Marines and sailors who had the opportunity to attend Finch’s presentation were able to gain a better understanding of the SOF warrior profile and why special operators are the way they are. The venue also provided a great opportunity for spouses to ask questions and gain valuable insight into the make-up of the positives and negatives of being married to a critical skills operator.
“Dr. Finch’s visit was a day of better understanding and relationship building and
re-enforcement of qualities that brought couples together and tips on how to strengthen those relationships now and in the future,” said the director of MARSOC’s Preservation of the Forces and Family program.
The purpose of MARSOC’s POTFF program is to provide a one stop shop for the MARSOC family to answer questions and provide assistance to Marines and their families. The MPOTFF is comprised of six pillars which includes, spirituality, family, safety, transition, medical and PERRES (Performance and Resilience), that make up the MPOTFF program.
“The MPOTFF ensures efficiency with its synchronization of efforts, and will continue to grow and change in the future. The program provides the resources required to ensure the health and wellbeing of our Marines and sailors comes first and their Families always,” concluded the MPOTFF director.
