Lieutenant Colonel Dave Moreau was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he attended Officer’s Candidate Course, Quantico, Virginia, receiving his commission in April 1997.
After The Basic School, and Infantry Officer Course, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau received orders to 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in February, 1998. Upon return from the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau deployed to Iskenderun, Turkey, for Exercise DYNAMIC MIX, as the G-2 Officer in Charge, Analysis Section. Shortly thereafter, he deployed to Comalapa, El Salvador, as the J-2, Joint Task Force AGUILA, in support of the Hurricane Mitch humanitarian aid mission.
From 1999 to 2000, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau served as Platoon Commander, 5th Platoon, Recon Company, 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division. He led the Marines and Sailors while deployed in support of Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
5th Platoon successfully participated in several bilateral training exercises, most notably, in support of Tunisian Special Forces, Bizerte, Tunisia. In 2001, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau was assigned as Platoon Commander, 1st Platoon, 2d Force Reconnaissance Company, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
From 2001 to 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau served as the lead Project Officer, Reconnaissance Surveillance, Target Acquisition Section, Technology Branch, Marine Corps Warfighting Lab, Quantico, Virginia. He planned for and supervised the Research and Development, Service Experimentation, and OCONUS Operational Evaluations of small arms, optics, robotics, and sensors, leading to their eventual use in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM-AFGHANISTAN. In 2005, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau graduated from the Expeditionary Warfighting School, Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia.
From 2005 to 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau served as Company Commander, Company A, 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, leading the Marines and Sailors while deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Company A conducted numerous combat operations, successfully engaging and capturing the enemy throughout Regimental Combat Team 5’s Area of Operations.
In 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau reported to the Current Operations Division, Intelligence Directorate, U.S. Central Command, Tampa, Florida, as the Officer in Charge, Personnel Recovery and Non-conventional Assisted Recovery Section. He participated in contingency, crisis action planning, and personnel recovery activities throughout U.S. Central Command’s Area of Responsibility in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM-AFGHANISTAN.
In 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau earned a master’s degree upon graduation from Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia.
Lieutenant Colonel Moreau reported to 3d Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command, in July 2011. He then deployed to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania as the Special Operations Forces Liaison Element, Joint Special Operations Task Force Trans-Sahara, Special Operations Command Africa. Serving as the senior in-country representative for U.S. Special Operations activities, he consolidated U.S., West African, and Western European partner nation support for a regional counter terrorism exercise, focused on combating a growing threat of violent extremism throughout the Maghreb and Sahel. Upon redeployment, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau served as the Executive Officer, 3d Marine Special Operations Battalion.
From August 2013 to May 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Moreau served as the Operations Officer, Marine Special Operations School, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command, coordinating the planning and execution for all MARSOC basic and advanced courses, and the transition of Special Operations Capable Specialist training to the formal school.
On 19 June, 2014 Lieutenant Colonel Moreau took command of 1st Marine Special Operations Support Battalion where he is currently serving.
