Marine Raider Regiment Sergeant Major

Sergeant Major Acosta enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 1987 and reported to MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina in July 1988 for recruit training. Upon his graduation in September 1988, Sergeant Major Acosta reported to the School of Infantry (SOI) where he underwent training to become an infantry rifleman 0311.
 
After completion of SOI, he reported to 2d Battalion Eighth Marines. From 1988 to 1992 Sergeant Major Acosta held the billets of rifleman, automatic rifleman, fire team leader, squad leader, platoon guide, and platoon sergeant. While with 2/8 he deployed twice to Panama, twice to the Mediterranean, and once to Okinawa.
 
In 1993 Sergeant Major Acosta reported to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion for duty as a reconnaissance scout. After the completion of Amphibious Reconnaissance School he was assigned to Charlie Company where he held the billets of scout, assistant team leader, and team leader.
 
In April of 1994 Sergeant Major Acosta was transferred to MCRD Parris Island South Carolina where he attended Drill Instructor School. Upon completion of D.I. School he was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill
Instructor, and Basic Warrior Training instructor.
 
After a successful tour on the drill field, he was transferred back to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion. From 1996 to 2006 Sergeant Major Acosta held the billets as team leader, platoon sergeant, SNCOIC of Reconnaissance Marines awaiting Training (RMAT), SNCOIC Pre-Scuba,
 Assistant BN Training Chief, BN Training Chief, Company Operations Chief, BN Operations Chief, and Company First Sergeant.
 
During this tour he made five more deployments to the Mediterranean and served in Kosovo and Afghanistan. Sergeant Major Acosta was transferred in April of 2006 to Marine Corps Detachment Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland where he served as the Marine Corps Detachment First Sergeant.

In April of 2009 Sergeant Major Acosta transferred to Combat Logistics Battalion 8, Camp Lejeune North Carolina deploying back to Afghanistan as the Support Company First Sergeant.

Sergeant Major Acosta was posted as the 2d Intelligence Battalion Sergeant Major on 23 December 2009. From January 2011 to January 2012 Sergeant Major Acosta deployed to Afghanistan as the Intel forward SgtMaj under Task Force Belleau Wood, II MEF.

Sergeant Major Acosta was posted as the 3rd Marine Special Operations Battalion Sergeant Major March 16th 2012. 1 Aug 2014 Sergeant Major Acosta was posted to his current billet as the Sergeant Major for Marine Special Operations Regiment (Marine Raider Regiment). 

His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal gold star in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with silver star in lieu of sixth award, the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist insignia, and the Marine Combatant Diver insignia.
